Planisek is an author of local history in Emmet County\, Michigan\, a founder of the Mackinaw Area Historical Society\, and a leading member of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association (GLLKA). All of her books focus on topics specific to Emmet County and Mackinaw City history\, including four lighthouse titles published in cooperation with GLLKA. \nPlanisek has received awards from the U.S. Coast Guard for her book Icebreaker Mackinaw WAGB-83 and from the American Association for State and Local History in recognition of her dedication and commitment to preserving local history. \nCome hear the stories behind the research\, ask questions\, and celebrate the history of the Mackinaw.
